How I turned my first children's book into a reality

All change starts by taking raw, massive action... without excuses!

Did you know that I spent three and a half years working to turn my frist children's book into a reality? ๐Ÿ™„

Yes, since my daughter was four years old I had this idea that later became a vision.๐Ÿ’ก

But in order to make it real, I got to go from vision to action... but not an inconsistent kind of action -the one that you only take when things are easy, or pleasant-. No, I took conscious, raw action to make this happen... even when I didn't want, or when I was tired, or sleepy, or not in the mood, or was busy with life.

I had no excuses, because I had the vision of becoming an author of children's books!

I made a commitment to myself, that I would show up every single day for what I believed was my
Big Why!, because I was driven by the enthusiasm of being true to myself and I wanted to teach the same to my little one.

So, I focused all my energies and I imagined my vision more real every day.

And I spent many hours working until late, learning every single detail in the process of independent publishing -because I wanted to have full control of the stories and the concept of them-.

It took me some time to connect with
the illustrator, that person who would bring to life my stories. I was envisioning someone who I could not only admire for their work and talent, but also that we could resonate on a personal level as well. At the beginning, I tried with three different people, but either the work was not in tune with my vision of the stories, or we were not on the same page in terms of mindset...

Until a very good friend introduced me to
Elys Rendón ๐Ÿ™Œ and then things started to flow more smoothly ๐Ÿƒ

But I had a big stone blocking my way: money! I was lacking the necessary amount to pay for getting the illustrations done.

That was when the same friend who introduced me to the illustrator, gave me a great idea! ๐Ÿ’ก

- Why don't you run a Kickstarter project?

I did it! It was a huge stretch, and it was really hard and emotionally intense, because I had to work a full time job to raise £5,000 in 30 days whilst being a single mum during lockdown! ๐Ÿ˜ต

But I kept choosing us, and holding that vision very high at all times! The result was AMAZING! The project ended being fully funded and I got the money to get the illustrations done! ๐Ÿ™Œ (Read my post blog about My Kickstarter project
here).

And all along this journey of being a self-published author, I have learned to stand up for me, as well as to focus on the best possible outcomes, rather than looking at the negative side of challenges -tell me about overcoming challenges!-.

Now, I am happy to declare that we have got the book in our hands, which has enabled us the most precious moment of choosing OUR own book for bedtime story ๐Ÿ˜ This was truly amazing!

And the best gift of all: my daughter said that she wanted to cry for happiness, and kissed me, and also said that I was the best mum ever โค๏ธ๐Ÿฅฐ

This! ๐Ÿ™Œ

She is the one who inspires me to keep moving forward every now!

Thank you, Abril! ๐Ÿ™ Thank you for being my shining star ๐Ÿ’–
